A journey to Sweden, 1989: Östersund

Deutsche Version dieses Postings

Here are a few photos from Östersund, where we had to wait for a few hours for the train going up the inlandsban. The mechanical train indicator was a beauty:

In between, I took a picture of the station building:

Shunting signal 197 is cleared:

A short time later, also the stop signal has been cleared—it can be seen here from far away ...

... and close-up:

The panel now shows a green light below "Utfart spår 3 söder", meaning "Departure track 3 southwards":

In this somewhat dark photo, the train director pulls the strings to show the next train:

Our train, going up the inlandsban, is already announced, but it will be more than two hours until it departs:

In the meantime, I took some more photos, for example of this shunting engine:

Also on platform 1, there was a mechanical train indicator:

In the traffic bureau stood this panel of a type 65 relay interlocking:

An engine driver allowed me to take a few photos of this Rc4's control stand:

In the hot summer, myriads of insects died on the front of the locomotives—here, the driver tries to remove them from the front panels:

Finally, we left Östersund in a Fiat railcar headed north. The two green lamps on the starting signal are hardly visible:
